Respect towards Ilm of Deen

Imam Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ismail Al-Bukhari (Rahmatullahi Alahi), The great Muhaddith Imaam Bukhari (Rahmatullahi Alahi).

Once during his stay in Bukhara, the governor of Bukhara sends a messenger to him with the request to visit the governor’s house to teach Ilm of Deen to his children. This kind of invitation was very much dignified in worldly sense, it would mean huge fame, plenty of money and worldly comfort. When the messenger reach with the Governor’s request to Imam Bukhari (Rahmatullahi Alahi), the Imam replied at once,

“ I can’t show disrespect to the Ilm of Deen, Ilm does not roam here and there, if you really want your children to learn Ilm, send them to my Masjid or home.”

The governor agrees and again send the messenger with this request,

“ Okay they will come to you but please arrange classes strictly just for my children”.

Imam Bukhari (Rahmatullahi Alahi) again refused saying,

“ It’s not appropriate to arrange strict gathering for them only, when they coming for learning Ilm of Deen.”

The second refusal made the governor very angry, he influences other people against imam Bukhari (Rahmutullahi Alahi) who were already jealous of Imam Bukhari (Rahmatullahi Alahi). The situation became so hard that Imam Bukhari (Rahmatullahi Alahi) had to leave Bukhara towards Samarkand. Imam (Rahmatullahi Alahi) could accept the invitation of governor and live with ease in Bukhara but He (Rahmatullahi Alahi) restrained from doing so to show respect to Ilm of Deen.

May Allah gives us all Taufiq to show Adaab to Ilm of Deen too. Ameen.
