بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Part two
(Part two)……..So Umme Salama (Radiyallahu Anha) raised few points against her own-self to save the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), what was those matters that made her concerned?
She said 3 things, “ Ya Rasulullah (Sallallau Alaihi wa Sallam),
- I am very sensitive in nature.
- I have quite a few children (4 children- Salma, Umar, Durrah and Zainab (Raditallahu Anhum).
- All my family members live in Mecca, and their permission for getting remarry is necessarily”.
Subhanallah! how wise lady she was, she was concerned about her own sensitive nature! The sifaat of Sahaba Ikram Radiyallahu Anhum was extraordinary in every matter! What was the reply of the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)? The prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) gave her solace with the words of wisdom to make her feel better before taking the decision to become Ummahatul Mu’mineen. He (S.W) said,
“ Allah will look after your children and your sensitive nature will vanish due course. None of your relative will dislike this proposal”.
How beautiful reply was from our beloved prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)! He was ready to take the responsibility of 4 children of Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) and even ready to accept all the other points Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) was concerned about. We have so many things to learn from this story. Sometimes we become complainant about women nature of being sensitive and discuss with other people, about how to get rid of this behavior, but the Habeeb of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) was very different in this case, instead of complaining He was solacing Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) that, this nature will vanish soon. Because He knew that, this sensitive nature was built in the heart because of long years of sacrifices after scarifies this honorable lady went through, and its curable by showing respect and kindness again. In this story, there is the solution of many problems that we face in our material relationship nowadays. A lady was so honest that she opens up her own problems so bravely instead of keeping them hidden and making them more worse, that until Qiyamah this is a beautiful example for us that if we have any problem we should discuss with our spouses so that they understand the reason and help us to find the solution. Again the reply of the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) was so kind, its another great thing to learn for the men, how to talk and reply with a lady when she is worried, a time is to solace and reply with nice words Subhanallah! May Allah SWT gives us Taufiq to learn from the beautiful lives of Sahaba Ikram (Radiyallahu Anhum). Ameen.
However, when the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) ensured her, she agreed to remarry, she then asked her elder son Salma (Radiyallahu Anhu) to serve as her guardian for the marriage and give her marry with the Prophet (Sallallahu Alihi wa Sallam). She was married with the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) in the end of Shawwal of 4 A.H (After Hijrah). The prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) gave her two grinding stones, one water pitcher and a leather pillow filled with date palm as marriage gift. The Prophet (sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) married her after the death of Ummul Mu’mineen Zainab Bint Khuzaimah (Radiyallahu Anha) therefore she used to live in the house of Ummul Mu’mineen Zainab bint Khuzaimah (Radiyallahu Anha) after her marriage.
When she entered in the house at first after marriage she found a hand mill, a kettle and some barley in an earthen jar in a corner of the house. She was so caring lady SubhanaAllah, the new bride at once milled some barley and put some fat in it. That’s how she made a food to serve our beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) at the first day of their marriage. SubhanaAllah how beautiful story to learn what should be the behavior of a lady towards her spouse! May Allah gives us all Taufiq to learn from the story of Sahaba Ikram (Radiyallahu Anhum. In many Ahadeeth we find her, she was a very good cook and was always cautious to present the food that pleases to Nabi (Sallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)
In one Hadith in Shamaile Tirmidhi its been narrated. Once some young Sahaba (Radiyallahu Anhum) went to her and asked her to cook the food that Nabi ( Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) liked and ate with pleasure. She replied “ children you will not like it now.” they replied “yes we will surely like it” then she got up then took a bit barley and grind it then put it in a pot, put a little olive oil over it, then she grind some chilies and spices , added in the pot then served it. Then she said “ this is what the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) loved and ate with pleasure.

In another Hadith its been narrated that, once she presented a roasted meat to Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam). Its easily understandable how much caring she was for the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) through these Ahadeeth, She used to make His (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam’s) favorite food by her own hands Subhanallah!
She always had great concern for the welfare and rest of the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), she had a slave, once she gave him freedom with the condition that he will serve the prophet (Sallalahu Alaihi wa Sallam) with sincerity throughout the life. He used to carry the things of prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam) wherever he would go, once Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) was so happy in his service that He (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) gave him the name Safeenah (Radiyallahu Anhu) out of pleasure.
Ummul Mu’mineen Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) was very famous for her beauty. Ummul Mu’mineen Aaisha (Radiyallahu Anha) narrated that, “ Umme Salma (Rafiyallahu Anha) was famous for her beauty. When I have seen her I’ve found her more beautiful than I have heard”. She was not only beautiful rather she was beauty with brain. She was a very brilliant and intelligent lady and a great spokeswomen too. Whenever Ummahal Mu’mineen would decide to say something collectively to the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), they would make Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) as their spokeswomen because of her Hikmah (Wisdom) and nice way of presentation.
She was very intelligent to understand human nature and psychology. On the time of Hudaibiyah , Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) with 1400 Sahaba Ikram (Radiyallahu Anhum) was going towards Makkah with the keen desire to do Umraa. But during the Safar they had to do a truce with Kuffer and come back again without performing Umraa. All the Sahaba (Radiyallahu Anhum) was in Ehraam, when Nabi (Sallallahu Alahi wa Sallam) told them to sacrifice their animal and shave the hairs, although they were very obedient to the prophet(Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) but at that moment of emotion (because of kuffer did not allow them to enter Mekka to do Umraa in sacred Kabaatullah), it was getting hard for them to obey the order, Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) went inside the tent with anxious face, Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) was present there, When Nabi (Sallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) narrated the situation to Ummul Mu’mineen Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha), she advised the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) to do these things in front of them instead of saying them anything. The prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) took her advice and made Sacrifice of animal, put his Ehraam off and got his hair shaved. On seeing him doing, everybody ashamed and started shaving their head with such hurry that their head was getting wounded. The problem of such big number of people was solved by her advice Subhanallah!
Once the by the Hukm of Allah SWT the choice was given to the wives of the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam) either to chose the comfort of this world or the pleasure of Allah and Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), one eminent Sahaba (Radiyallahu Anhu) was going to the wives of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) to tell them not to displease the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), when he came to advice Ummul Mu’mineen Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) she did not liked another persons interference in their family matter, she at once said
“ Its strange that you are interfering the matter between the prophet of Allah and his wives”
The Sahabi (Radiyallahu Anhu) became quiet and went away. Next morning He went to the prophet (S.W) and said what Ummul Mu’mineen Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) said to him. The prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) only smiled and didn’t say anything. She taught us ladies (and Men) not to talk here and there our family matters and also taught the others not to interfere in the family matters of another person. The behavior of Nabi (S.W) taught us if anybody comes to pour something in our ear about our souses, we should not to hear them SuhanaAllah!
She was very affectionate mother to her children. Once she asked about that to the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), His Reply was she will be reworded for her kindness to her children.
She was very pious, once she wore a necklace made of gold, when she understood the prophet of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) might not like it, she broke the necklace. She always used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays.
Ummul M’mineen Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) was very knowledgeable in Islamic jurisprudence that even the eminent Sahaba Ikram (Radiyallahu Anhum) would seek guidance from Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) and a large number of Taa-be’in also benefited by her knowledge. She narrated as many as 378 Ahadeeth SubhanaAllah! In science of Ahadeeth only Ummul Mu’mineen Aisha (Radiyallahu Anha) narrated more Ahadeeth than her as a women. She was very well versed in Islamic Jurisprudence and had perfect knowledge in important matters.
Not only in Ahadeeth but also in recitation of Quraan she was outstanding, she could recite same way as Prophet (Sallallahu Alahi wa Sallam) would recite. Once somebody asked her about the recitation of the prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) she demonstrated the recitation of prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) in her own voice that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) would recite with perfect propriety (Tarteel) that every single letter would pronounce very clearly Subhanallah!
She was an outstanding lady with all the quality we think in Deen and Duniya about a lady, A beautiful women with high linage, A patient person in sever affliction, an obedient and caring wife, loving and affectionate mother, a great spokeswomen with great sense of hummer and human psychology, an Aalimah, Qari’ah and Dayee’ah. Even after all these things she was so keen to do more good deed’s and fearful about the day of judgment. Subhanallah! Aha….. if we had even an iota dot of good qualities like those golden people!
She left this world towards Allah SWT at the age of 84 in the year of 63 A.H. Abu Hurairah (Radiyallahu Anhu) led her funeral prayer.
The entire life of Umme Salma (Radiyallahu Anha) was perfect example of different phrases of lives for us ladies, How beautifully she managed everything with great balance all her home, family and children, learning Ilm then spread to others, doing own Amaal and fulfilling the responsibilities of Ummah of our beloved prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam). She left for all her children coming until Qiaamah (Ummul Mu’mineen means “the mother of the believers”) a beautiful path of guidance by sacrificing her own comfort. We are greatly indebted to her , to all our Ummahatul M’mineen and Sahaba-Sahabiyyah Ikram (Radiyallahu Anhum) until our end. May Allah SWT gives us Taufiq to follow the path she showed us until our end. Ameen.
